Researchers Determine the Talk Test is a Good Way to Measure Workout Intensity
Written by admin on August 10, 2011 – 7:17 pm -Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse found that the talk test was an accurate test to determine workout intensity. Over exerting yourself while exercising is not healthy or productive, yet heart monitors are not always available or accurate. Instead, consider using the talk test.
While exercising, try talking. If you can talk at a comfortable level without stopping or trying to catch your breath, this is a good sign that you are exercising at an appropriate level. Now, you should be breathing heavier and may feel a bit winded. If you don’t feel like you are breathing heavy, you are probably exercising a too light of a level.
Researchers determined that the talk test was about as accurate as a heart monitor and ventilatory threshold readings.
